During your software developer training, you often work in teams. You will learn together how to set up projects to develop applications. You also keep an eye on whether your apps and software continue to work properly. In the first year you mainly learn the basics of programming and markup languages. In the second year you work with frameworks that companies use, such as Laravel, Vue, React, Xamarin and Bootstrap. You will also receive general subjects such as Dutch, English, arithmetic, career and citizenship. These subjects are also important.
The general duration of this training is 4 years. However, there is the possibility to speed up. When you are selected for the acceleration program towards the end of year 1, you can choose to take the course at an accelerated pace. You will then be placed in a separate accelerator class from year 2 onwards. This only contains students who accelerate. There are of course a number of conditions to be selected for this. In short, you can only be selected for this if you do your very best, hand in everything on time and have mastered all the course material thoroughly.
During the Software Developer course, we work in blocks. There are 2 blocks in each school year. In the first year, there are blocks A and B. Each block lasts six months. During these blocks, you will receive a number of modules with theory and associated assignments that must be completed. So you learn something different every block. But of course this doesn't mean that you don't repeat. The teaching material you receive will continue to haunt you in the following blocks.
Programming for Windows, using languages such as Python and C#.
Programming for websites, with languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript.
Support for practice. You will learn, among other things, the working methods.
Practice. In other words, completing assignments based on the learned course material.
Mentor hour. Your mentor will discuss important matters with you.
Arithmetic is also part of the curriculum. This profession is also still very important.
You will also get English. Mastering this language is important.
Of course you still get Dutch. This is still important.
The schedule of a first-year student looks roughly the same as a high school schedule. The days are not too long, but it is of course a fairly full schedule. After all, you have to learn things, which takes time. Hard work is rewarded. If you do your best, finish everything on time and participate well in class, there is a chance that some teachers will let you go early. Now that's delicious!
It is a nice course where you learn various things. You will not only learn to develop applications, but also everything surrounding it. The teachers are very enthusiastic, like to teach you things, but are also up for a joke. This makes it a nice atmosphere, because it is not all serious all the time.
